Break down the stigma
Wangaratta people are urged to start much needed conversations about mental illness in the community to help break down the stigma around mental health.
CEO of the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia, Tony Stevenson, says more than 60% of GP presentations have elements of mental health issues, and people should know there is help available.
"If we can normalise this type of illness, we can expect that people will reach out for the help they need. If people will a mental illness are getting the right support, it is possible to recover".
"There are about some 690,000 people in Australia who live with very severe mental illness, for that group of people there are many, many challenges in their lives. The fact is though that there is help available and we are encouraging people to reach out and get the help that they need".
