Wangaratta's Helpers

Wangaratta and Wodonga councils are participating in a state-wide program to keep towns cleaner.

Over the next four weeks things such as graffiti art and rubbish will be removed from the streets.

It is part of an initiative called "Working for Victoria", which has been introduced by the state government to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and create more local jobs.

You may notice a number of people cleaning the streets around Wangaratta's CBD including parks and streets.

Wangaratta Council Chief Executive Officer Brendan McGrath, said that the short term cleaning blitz compliments the existing cleaning measures already in place to keep the community safe.

"The cleaning commenced Saturday 16 May and many members of the community may have already seen crews on our streets during the weekend, wearing high vis vests supporting Council teams in doing their bit to keep the Rural City of Wangaratta safe and clean".

Wangaratta Mayor Dean Rees said it will provide cleaner communities during the coronavirus pandemic.
