Drugs, Weapons, Number Plates, Cash & Phones Seized

A man will face court today after police located four firearms, a machete, and ice during a search of a vehicle in Albury.

Shortly after 2.30am yesterday (Monday 5 August 2019), officers from Murray River Police District were patrolling David Street, Albury, when they stopped a Jeep Cherokee.

On approach to the vehicle, the officers noticed a large machete between the passenger seat and the centre console, which was secured.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police seized two .22 calibre rifles, one of which was semi-automatic; a 12-guage shotgun, a .243 Winchester, ammunition, ice, cannabis, number plates, cash, and mobile phones.

The firearms will undergo forensic and ballistic examination.

Two men – the 45-year-old driver and 26-year-old passenger – were arrested and taken to Albury Police Station.

The 26-year-old man was charged with six firearm offences including possess prohibited weapon, three drug related offences including supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity) and possession of the knife.

He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court later today (Tuesday 6 August 2019).

The older man was released pending further inquiries.
