Australia 'at risk of revolution' over population

The 1986 Australian Of The Year has launched a new campaign, calling on Australia’s political parties to come up with immigration policy.

He wants it capped at 70,000 – a third of what it is now.

Speaking on 3AW, the outspoken businessman said Australia was on track to have 100 million people living here by the end of the century.

“And I have a feeling that means about 30 million will be really poor and never have a job – I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Mr Smith explained.

He said Labor was too afraid of “offending” ethnic groups by putting a cap on immigration, while the Liberal Party didn’t want to get the business community offside.

“Australia’s wealthiest one per cent earns more than 17 million Australians (combined),” Mr Smith said.

“That’s when the pitchforks come out.

“If you look back on history, once you get huge differences between the wealthy and the poor, you end up with revolution and we don’t want that here.

“Every Aussie family has a population plan. “They can have 20 children – they don’t – they have the number of children they can give a good life too.”
