Farewell Big Al - By Matt Hobbs

Alan J Findlay passed away last Monday and has left our lives a little less bright.

For those of us who new him, and even those who didn't, he was quite literally a larger than life character.

Standing 6 foot plus and being a man of ample proportion he was certainly an imposing figure, however his disarming smile, great sense of humour, and not to mention his amazing memory for birthdays (Although I'm convinced he used a calendar however I was never able to prove it) were just some of the many things that endeared him to us.

Moving to Porepunkah from Moe in 1988, Big Al became and integral part of the community volunteering as Bright's Town crier, assisting in youth projects across the North East, and in more recent times volunteering with NDIS clients - Big Al's sense of community was stead fast.

Big Al we shall miss the man in the tights and funny hat and the calls on our birthdays.

A special celebration of his life will be held in Bright's Howitt Park on Friday June 7.
