Albury city council have rejected a plan to reduce parking fines by 25% following urgings from the NSW government.

Councillor Henk van de Ven called out the move a a blatant stunt to help it's re-election prospects next year, and won support to maintain the status quo, according to the Border Mail.

"They didn't talk to councils about fines and the revenue we get from the fines and out attempts to have parking turned over as much as possible" he said.

"It's going to cost us $112,000 in revenue so the government can say 'aren't we good blokes, we're looking for re-election and this is one of the things we've done for you, we've got councils to reduce their parking fines'".
