Leagues announce cancellations for this year

After much debate about whether local and grassroots football would be possible in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, North East leagues have made the agonising decision to abandon play for the year.

Following the Ovens & King's earlier decision on the 4th of June, the Tallangatta and District League, Ovens and Murray, and Goulburn Valley leagues have confirmed they too, will not hold a senior premiership season in 2020.

All leagues have cited the health and wellbeing of their players, supporters, officials, and the wider community as the number one reason to cancel the season. Managing crowds, volunteer strain, and financial risks also noted as contributing factors as a barrier to the sustainable functioning of clubs.
