Reassess Water Quality

North Eastern Victoria Farmers are being urged to reassess the quality and quantity of their on-farm water during Autumn.

Agriculture Victoria Animal Industries Development Officer, Richard Smith, says both factors are key for farmers to maintain stock productivity, health and welfare during the coming months.

Mr Smith says the types of feed, dissolved salt levels, and pollutants factor heavily in quantities required and the water's appeal to ensure uptake by stock.

He says local producers may also be eligible under the On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme to help cover the costs associated with infrastructure installations.

The scheme is a one-off 25% rebate of up to $25,000 to those eligible that will aim to address animal welfare needs and improve resilience to drought.
