More announcements are expected from the Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews later today about easing restrictions.

At a press conference on Sunday the Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos discussed lifting restrictions and says when that happens it can happen safely.

"Although, some states may decide to lift restrictions on gatherings, travel bans and community sport – it is an issue for other states on how they handle their own rules.

Ms Mikakos says, “There’s been a lot of work potentially easing restrictions, in recent weeks about how preconditions work can be done safely. It is about more testing, tracing, how we respond to outbreaks, there has been a lot of work undertaken because we know we will continue to see outbreaks”.

“Until we get to zero the risk will always be there, whether in workplace, school and hospitals”.

“Testing work will continue and significant testing work has been expanded”.

There will be pop up testing available at shopping centres, but they are keen to make testing as accessible as possible. She continues to urge people even with mild symptoms to come forward for testing.

“You should not be visiting elderly relatives, and not be going out to the community or work if you are feeling unwell”.

There has been a big shift in people going out, especially this weekend following Mother’s Day. The Victorian state has been made aware that shopping centres were busier, but continue to send the message that shopping is only for essential items.

“These rules are in place, so its important that people understand that you should only be leaving your work for absolute necessities because this virus is very contagious; it is a good idea to kill boredom, but only leave the house to do shopping if you need supplies for your family. But overall, people seem to be doing the right thing”.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to outline a plan to ease restrictions today.

The total cases in Victoria are now at 1,487 and there has been no increase in community transmission, which is currently at 157.
