Tax scam warning
It’s tax scam time, and security experts say everyone across the North East and Border should be wary of fake e-mails, SMS and phone calls, claiming to be from Centrelink or the Tax Office.
Small Businesses are also urged to be on the lookout, with cyber threats costing an average of $10,000 last year.
Mark Gorrie from Norton says there are several things we can do to protect ourselves
"If offers and tax refunds are unexpected and too good to be true, or threatening phone calls and emails demand immediate settlement of tax debts, do not respond. Call the tax office directly if you are unsure or suspicious of these requests, and use comprehensive computer software".
