The V/Line Albury-Melbourne train came to a holt at 5:40 pm Wednesday afternoon after it crashed into a wagon from a derailed freight train just between Chiltern and Barnawartha.

Ambulance Victoria said paramedics assessed 19 patients but there were no injuries.

The crash caused a fire for several wagons followed by a grassfire and the CFA attended to put out the blaze.

The Hume Freeway was also partially closed from the event.
