Firebug jailed for arson

A woman from the North East has been sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison - after being found guilty of arson.

36-year-old Lisa Hay appeared via video link yesterday from prison.

The court heard she was responsible for lighting a fire which consumed an elderly woman's home while she slept in 2017.

The 81-year-old managed to escape after being woken by her smoke alarm and told the court in a victim impact statement that her life was turn upside down when she lost her home.

Hay was previously convicted for lighting four other fires at another neighbour's home.

She has been found guilty of arson, reckless conduct endangering life and will be eligible for parole in less than 18 months.
